Documentation
Toolsnest is a growing collection of fast, private, browser-based tools. This page explains how to get the most out of them. Most tasks take three steps: open a tool, drop in your file or text, and download or copy the result.
How the tools work
Nearly every tool runs entirely inside your web browser using client-side JavaScript. That means the file or text you provide is processed on your own device and never leaves it — there is no upload step and no server that sees your data. It also makes the tools fast, because there is no round-trip to a server, and usable offline once the page has loaded.
Finding the right tool
There are three easy ways to find what you need:
- Use the search box on the home page to jump straight to a tool by name.
- Browse the full tools directory, grouped by category — PDF, image, developer, text, colour and calculators.
- Read the blog for step-by-step guides that walk through common tasks.
Categories at a glance
- PDF tools — merge, split, compress, convert, sign and organise PDFs.
- Image tools — convert, resize, compress, crop and inspect images.
- Developer tools — format and validate JSON, XML, YAML, SQL and more.
- Text tools — clean, transform, count and analyse text.
- Colour tools — pick, convert and generate colours and palettes.
- Calculators — finance, health, maths, dates and unit conversions.
Tips for best results
- Because tools run on your device, very large files depend on your available memory — close other heavy tabs if a big job feels slow.
- Once a tool page has loaded, it keeps working even if your connection drops, since the processing is local.
- Your theme and similar preferences are remembered in your browser, so the site looks the way you left it next time.
- Nothing is uploaded, so there are no accounts, quotas or waiting queues — refresh and run a tool as many times as you like.
